Sodom, todos conocen a Sodom. Uno de los grandes pilares de la escena alemana metalera y una banda esencial dentro del Thrash Metal Teoutónico. En sus comienzos estaban bastante alejados de la escena Thrash, estaban orientados al Black/Speed Metal fruto de la influencia como podría ser la obvia Venom.

Pero acá no estoy para hablar de géneros, influencias o quizas de otras bandas. Si no de la majestuosa obra maestra del In The Sign Of Evil, un material pensado para ser lanzado como disco y que terminó siendo un EP, que personalmente es de mis lanzamientos favoritos.

Corría el año 1985 y todos (o la gran mayoría) en la escena del Heavy Metal estaban obsesionados con el Thrash Metal, pero no, Sodom no, eran una de las alternativas más agresivas que podías encontrar si no te interesaba mucho el Thrash, cosa bastante difícil para lo que mostraba el género en ese entonces.

A partir de eso, teniendo en cuenta lo que sucedía en ese entonces vamos a hablar de este gran EP.

Como dije anteriormente iba a ser lanzado como disco de larga duración, pero no fue así. No recuerdo completamente las razones, si fue por temas económicos o por su duración, que por lo que dura y en relación a la calidad no se puede pedir más.

Abrimos con In The Sign Of Evil, una "Intro" con voces demoníacas (o como quieran llamarlo) que sirven como ambientación o para saber a lo que nos enfrentamos, sin más que decir me centro en "Outbreak Of Evil", segundo tema y para mi gusto quizas el mejor, eso que es complicado tener que elegir uno en general sobre cada pieza que este EP tiene. Con una letra a lo mejor demasiado repetitiva se puede complementar de muy buena manera teniendo en cuenta la parte ritmica del tema y una especie (no soy un ejemplo de músico) de introducción con un solo de guitarra.

Nos movemos a "Sepulchral Voice" segundo tema, que personalmente me causa una sensación indescriptible en cada momento, un inicio oscuro, sombrío y lento que de un momento a otro se abre y muestra ese Speed esencial en cuanto a lo artístico, para volver eventualmente a ese momento de oscuridad y volver a lo rápido y destructivo nuevamente.

Con el pasar del tiempo la band nos muestra "Blasphemer" que en mi opinión es su mejor tema en toda su discografía completa, fiel a lo oscuro y maldito, "Blasphemer" muestra todo lo que en gran mayoría es el Black Metal, blasfemias, blasfemias y más blasfemias sobre Satanás, rituales, demonios, el mismo infierno y masturbaciones, bastante ilustrativo si te lo imaginas mientras lo escuchas.

Sobre "Witching" Metal, su cuarto tema no tengo mucho para decir, no es un mal tema en absoluto, aunque no destaca sobre el resto, aún así un gran tema con líricas sobre Metal y la misma Sodom.

Y para finalizar con esta obra de arte, no puede faltar un tema, "Burst Command Til War", sobre devastaciones nucleares, decimación de la raza humana y esas catástrofes que nos acostumbran letras así.

Cosas a destacar fuera del análisis de canción por canción. Musicalmente es agresivo y destructivo como en mi opinión es el toque perfecto para lo que se muestra. Guitarras distorsionadas (obviamente), baterías rápidas (al menos para la época) y mucha violencia escrita. Para la época que corría un material totalmente novedoso, aunque no se si innovador. Por último, no quiero dejar de lado la portada que sin duda es una de las mejores en relación al Metal en general.
