Atheist es una banda de Thrash/Death Metal Progresivo estadounidense, formados en 1984, se caracterizan por sus extremidad acompañada del complejismo del metal progresivo e incluso jazz fusión.

La formación del disco consistió en Kelly Shaefer en guitarra y voces, Rand Burkey también en guitarra y Tony Choy y Steve Flynn en bajo y percusiones respectivamente, una alineación simplemente brutal.

Unquestionable Presence de Atheist, es el segundo disco de la banda, lanazado en 1991, sin duda es un disco que te atrapa desde el primer instante con "Mother Man" que al dar un intro de bajo y batería muy progresivo te sorprende, dando así por iniciado éste destrozo de neuronas.

Este disco es sin duda una excelente grabación, que no decepciona y que es muy envolvente, con cambios de ritmo inesperados, de lo mejor que hay en la rama del Technical Death Metal con una banda que no tiene el reconocimiento que merece, cabe mencionar que éste LP tiene un bajeo muy increíble para el deleite del oyente.

Continuamos con la homónima del disco "Unquestionable Presence" que nuevamente como en la primer canción te atrapa desde el primer instante, donde el bajo permanece como uno de los factores principales, y cada integrante juega muy bien su papel. Riffs, voces y solos increíbles.

"Your Life Is Retribution" comenzamos con un vocal impresionante, que se adecua a la música y hace de ésta pieza muy disfrutable.

Continuamos con "Enthralled In Essence" que de sólo escuchar los primeros segundos te hace mover la melena.

"An Incarnation's Dream" Nos encontramos con una intro acústica, donde en conjunto de sirenas policiacas y voces de gente en disturbio hacen un buen ambientalismo en ésta pieza, donde después entramos a lo pesado que tanto esperamos.

Continuamos con "The Formative Years" pieza donde los riffs y cambios de ritmo se hacen muy presentes sin dejar de lado la majestuosidad de ésta pieza.

Esto da paso a "Brains" con pasajes muy progresivos que me recuerdan a The Sound Of Perseverance de Death (aunque Unquestionable Presence fue lanzado primero).

Terminamos éste disco con "And The Psychic Saw", que como las otras piezas todo ésta en su lugar, un vocal excelente, guitarras con riffs y solos excelentes, bajeo que en conjunto a la batería hacen de ésta pieza muy digna de cerrar este material.

Mi opinión sobre Unquestionable Presence es que a cualquiera que lo escuche le va a agradar, donde el jazz fusión en conjunto con thrash progresivo y death tecnico tomaban terreno , y donde al bajo se le da un papel muy importante en cada canción, que hace de éste disco simplemente maravilloso.

Éste disco es increíble para escucharlo con los audífonos o bocinas (dependiendo el caso) a tope, sin hacer pausas o saltar canciones, éste disco se hizo para escucharlo de corrido, donde su sonido envolvente te hará que desees que nunca se acabe.

Este trabajo es algo sobrehumano, donde Atheist te da una patada directa el cráneo con éste Tech Death que bien podría hacer una buena dupla con Human de Death y escucharlos de una zancada sin morir de aburrimiento, éste es un disco para los amantes del Death Metal y a su vez para los amantes del Progresivo, Atheist tiene ese poder de unir ambos generos haciendo de "Unquestionable Presence" una obra maestra de su terreno.

En cuanto éste disco llegó a mis oídos el instrumental me hizo pensar en Nothingface de Voivod y las voces en Sadus, donde Atheist parece que hizo una combinación de éstos dos, entregandonos un excelente LP.
